Coronavirus-France decides to lift lockdown restrictions

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that several coronavirus restrictions are being lifted.

France has 157,220 confirmed Covid-19 cases out of which 29,407 have died whereas 72,859 have recovered. The number of active cases are 54,954.

Globally, there are 7,998,006 active cases out of which 435,697 have died whereas 4,129,371 have recovered. The number of active cases are 3,432,938 worldwide.

Emmanuel Macron said in a televised address that France had won its “first victory”, But he also warned the virus could return.

“As soon as tomorrow we will be able to turn the page on this first chapter across all our territory,”

“This does not mean that the virus has gone and that we can completely drop our guard. The summer of 2020 will be a summer unlike any other and we will need to watch the evolution of the epidemic to be prepared in case it comes back with renewed strength.”

The country has decided to lift several restrictions, reopen cafes and restaurants as well as travel to other European countries. People are also allowed to visit their family members in retirement homes.

In addition to this, countries including Germany, Belgium, Croatia, and Switzerland are reopening their borders with EU countries today. Travelers from the UK will be allowed to visit without quarantine.

However, people traveling from the UK or Spain will be asked to be isolated for two weeks.
