The Czech Republic threw a party to give a “symbolic farewell” to coronavirus. 

Thousands of people joined the party. They sat at a 500 meter-long (1640ft) table on the Charles Bridge in Prague on Tuesday. They shared food and drinks they had brought from home. No social distancing measures were followed.

Note that the Czech Republic, a country having 10 million population, had reported less than 12,000 infections. There are 11,954 confirmed cases of coronavirus out of which 349 people have died whereas 7,771 people have recovered. The number of active cases currently are 3,834.

The event’s organizer said that the celebration was possible because of the low number of tourists in the city.

Ondrej Kobza, the organizer of the party and owner of a cafe in the city, told the international news agency: “We want to celebrate the end of the coronavirus crisis by letting people meet and show they are not afraid to meet, that they are not afraid to take a piece of a sandwich from their neighbor.”

Galina Khomchenko-Krejcikova was among the people attended the event. She said that she found the event on Facebook and “thought it was interesting”.

“I just finished a night shift so I didn’t have time to prepare anything,” she said. “But we brought some wine and snacks we found at home.”
