Former US presidential candidate, executive, and business executive Herman Cain died from coronavirus.

Cain had contracted the virus in late June and was taken to a hospital in Atlanta on July 1, nearly two weeks after he attended President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Oklahoma.

“Herman Cain – our boss, our friend, like a father to so many of us – has passed away,” a message posted on his official website said.

His official twitter account tweeted, “You’re never ready for the kind of news we are grappling with this morning. But we have no choice but to seek and find God’s strength and comfort to deal… #HermanCain”.

Cain, 74, had run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012 and had founded Godfather’s Pizza chain.

On 7th July, a post from his Twitter account said, “doctors are trying to make sure his oxygen levels are right”.
“This is a tough virus,” it said. “Please continue praying.”

The president paid tribute to Mr. Cain on Thursday at the White House. He said, “He was a very special person… and unfortunately he passed away from a thing called the China virus.”

According to the international news agency, Mr. Cain studied maths and a master’s in computing. His father used to work as a janitor, chauffeur, and barber, and his mother worked as a servant.

He worked as a Baptist minister, a radio talk show host, and as a businessman.

He said to the reporters during his run that he would not stand for any “gotcha questions”.

“And when they ask me who is the president of Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan, I’m going to say you know, I don’t know. Do you know?”
