The Indian government could soon ban the PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds (PUBG) in India. A month after the Indian government banned 59 Chinese apps including famous ones like TikTok, UC Browser, citing data protection concerns, reports indicating a ban on 275 apps have begun to emerge online.

PUBG is one of India’s and many other countries’ most popular mobile smartphone games. The app can boast more than 175 million downloads in India alone.

PUBG is developed by Bluehole, a South Korean videogame company. Chinese multinational conglomerate Tencent, however, holds a substantial share in the famous game.

The Indian government is considering a ban due to data protection issues in the battle royale style game. Owing to suspected data-sharing activities with the Chinese Government, multiple applications have been on the radar as well.

In the past, PUBG has been the subject of heavy criticism many times but for another cause. Upon receiving many complaints from parents and guardians, some nationwide state governments placed a temporary ban on the gaming app because of its addictive nature, which has had a psychological effect on players, particularly young people.
