WASHINGTON: Two small planes collided in the US state of Alaska, killing seven people, including a member of parliament, and authorities have launched an investigation into the crash.

According to a report by a foreign news agency, the plane crashed near Aldersa’s Soldotna Airport. The wife of Alaska House correspondent Gary Knope confirmed the death of her husband in the crash.

The agency said the two planes had taken off from Soldotna Airport and collided in the air about 150 miles from the city of Anchorage. Evidence and samples are being collected from the scene.

Police have shifted all the bodies to the hospital after the accident and initiated other legal action.

On the other hand, the death of Alaska House Representative Gary Knopp has been confirmed by several of his fellow members of the Assembly. Gary Knope’s wife, Helen, told her husband that she was flying her plane on Friday morning when the crash happened. Knope was a certified flying trainer and a registered pilot.

Foreign media say that the cause of the accident may be engine failure.
