On their first meeting, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle had gifted the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton a soft leather Smythson notebook.

They were first met in the year 2018 on the 10th of January – a day after Kate’s 36th birthday. Reportedly, Meghan gave the present to Kate Middleton before tying the knot with Prince Harry.

Scobie and Durand write in Finding Freedom that,

“Meghan presented Kate with a soft leather Smythson notebook.”

However, the relation between both could not turn into anything better as they were beyond “distant politeness,” an excerpt from the biography.

The book further revealed that during the March’s Commonwealth Service, Kate was not friendly with Meghan which left her “emotionally bruised and exhausted”.
