The three-month grace period announced by UAE authorities for expired visa holders has come to an end on October 11.

The grace period was allowed specifically for UAE residents and GCC passport holders inside the country whose visas expired anytime between March 1 to July 11.

However, as per the policy, residents whose Emirates ID cards expired in the grace period will have to pay fines before leaving the country or renewing the visa. According to the international news source, the resident will have to pay at Dh125 for the first day and 25 for every subsequent day after the grace period. On the other hand, the daily charges will be increased to Dh50 if the person stays for more than 6 months. After a year, it will be increased to DH125 for each day.

What if your visa expired after July 11?

You are exempted from the special three-month grace period if your residence visa expired after July 11. You are only allowed to avail of the usual one-month grace period post expiry to renew your visa. Fines will be charged from the first day after the grace month.

A top official at Dubai’s General Directorate of Foreign Affairs and Residency told the local news source that that valid residency visa holders who have spent more than 180 days [6 months] outside the country can still return. The official also said that such residents can return given air space between their country and UAE is open as long as their residency remains valid.

However, you will have to check with ICA or your visa validity and possibility of return if you are not a Dubai resident.
