Tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan raged for the fifth day. Heavy shelling between the forces of both countries was reported.

Clashes between Armenian and Azerbaijan forces happened on Sunday over the breakaway region. Several died on both sides.

Armenian shelling killed a civilian in its city of Terter, about 90km from Nagorno-Karabakh, in the morning and badly damaged the train station there, Azerbaijan’s general prosecutor’s office said.

The country’s defense ministry said that its troops had conducted “crushing artillery strikes against Armenian forces’ positions in the occupied territories”, throughout the night.

AFP news agency reported that two explosions were heard around midnight in the city of Stepanakert in Nagorno-Karabakh as sirens sounded. Residents reported that the city was attacked by drones.

Ethnic-Armenian officials in the region called the incident “tense”. They said both sides have exchanged artillery fire.

“The enemy attempted to regroup its troops, but Armenian forces suppressed all such attempts,” they said.

In addition to this, Armenian authorities also said that two French journalists working for Le Monde were wounded during shelling by Azeri forces in the Armenian town of Martuni, west of the Nagorno-Karabakh region on Thursday. They said that both journalists were being taken to the hospital.

Armenia President said on Thursday that the country’s air defense forces downed four drones in the provinces near Yerevan.

Armenia has recalled its ambassador to Israel for consultations over Israeli arms sales to Azerbaijan.
