Saudi Arabia has announced to end the Kafala system and replace it with a new form of contract for the employees.

As per the details, the government will reveal new regulations for foreign employees next week. Report said that new rules would be applicable from the first half of 2021.
“The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development intends next week to announce a new initiative that improves the contractual relationship between employers and expatriate workers,” the report said.
The report added that the changes were to be unveiled earlier this year but were delayed due to the emergence of coronavirus pandemic.

“Kafala” system is applied to foreign employees working in Gulf Arab countries. Under the system, the workers are required to be sponsored by a Saudi employer and be issued an exit/re-entry visa whenever they want to leave the country.
