Indian Police have arrested the chief executive of a sensational news channel’s media group Republic TV, for manipulating the rating system, under which the channel receives advertisements.

According to the reports, Republic TV said during the broadcast that the police have arrested Vikas Khanchandani, the head of ARG Outlier Media, from his house in Mumbai, the economic centre of India.

Note that Republic TV broadcasts in both English and Hindi languages which fully supports Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies.

“I know he will be arrested and come out with his head held high,” Republic TV co-founder Arnab Goswami said in his program on the arrest of Vikas Khanchandani.

According to the report, the arrest is part of a police investigation launched in October into allegations of tampering with the rating system imposed on a TV channel in the western state of Maharashtra.

Police had earlier questioned Vikas Khanchandani.

Experts say the arrest is a tug-of-war between Republic TV and the local administration in Maharashtra, where ruling coalition parties opposed Narendra Modi’s BJP efforts to unite the state.

It is pertinent to mention here that the police had registered a case of incitement to suicide against Arnab Goswami last month and arrested him.

Sanjay Mohit, a senior Mumbai police officer, had said that the case against Republic TV founder Arnab Goswami was linked to the deaths of Anvay Naik, an interior designer, and his mother, whom police had termed a suicide.

The suicide note written by Anvay Naik to the police stated that he was ending his life because Arnab Goswami and others had taken a large sum of money from him which he refused to return.

In his shows, Arnab Goswami strongly supports Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his nationalist policy and is often seen shouting at rivals.
