In January 2021, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will visit India in a major diplomatic visit with the intention to support growth opportunities across the United Kingdom.

Prime Minister also aims to welcome India for attending the G7 summit making India the third country followed by South Korea and Australia.

The purpose of the Indian trip is to improve the bilateral strategic partnership. Alongside cooperating in different areas, including safety, security, health, and environmental issues.

On January 26, it will overlap with India’s national Republic Day events. It will also arrive just weeks after the UK exits the Single Market of the European Union on 31 December. As it explores new post-Brexit trade agreements.

Johnson says that “I am absolutely delighted to be visiting India next year at the start of an exciting year for Global Britain, and look forward to delivering the quantum leap in our bilateral relationship that Prime Minister [Narendra] Modi and I have pledged to achieve.”

“As a key player in the Indo-Pacific region, India is an increasingly indispensable partner for the United Kingdom as we work to boost jobs and growth, confront shared threats to our security and protect our planet.”

Johnson’s visit accompanies a proposal by Modi. After the last weekend, he participated in a London climate summit. The news announced this week in India with British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab.

Raab told during a news conference in New Delhi with his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar, “What we recognize [are] the possibilities for a deeper trading relationship, the contours of our economy I think would allow that.”

“We will want to nudge our trade ministers along and see what we can achieve.”

Jaishankar further continued and added while highlighting the trade intentions of the country, “a very serious intent. We see the strategic case”.
