Striving to further diversify its ranks, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) launched a new website Monday to find top-tier candidates who will bring a broader range of life experiences to the nation’s premier intelligence agency

America’s international intelligence-gathering organization has a history of hiring male graduates from Ivy League schools. But currently, the director of the CIA is a woman leading in all the five branches of the agency, including the directorates of science and technology, operations, and digital innovation.

Gina Haspel, the director of the CIA who joined the agency in 1985 states that she hopes the changes in the website will provide people a sense of “dynamic environment that awaits them here”.

She further added, “We’ve come a long way since I applied by simply mailing a letter marked ‘CIA, Washington, DC’.”

The latest black-and-white circular emblem represents an array of parallel and intertwined lines. The eagle-based logo of the agency remains unaltered.

The updated website features a rotating series of photographs of diverse individuals with a message that reads, “We are the Nation’s first line of defense.”

In December, a report by the Government Accountability Office to Congressional committees said the intelligence community as a whole needs to take more action to boost diversity.

“Over the past several years, the intelligence community has demonstrated its commitment to diversity by taking steps to increase the proportion of women, racial or ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities” within the workforce, the report said. “Although some progress has been made in increasing this representation throughout the intelligence community, representation remains below comparable benchmarks.”
