President Donald Trump has announced that he will not attend Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony today (Wednesday). Instead, he will be leaving for Florida.

It has become a custom that the outgoing President watch the next in line to take the oath. However, President Trump seems to be breaking the long-time custom.

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th,” Mr. Trump tweeted on 8 January. He is expected to travel to his Florida residence Mar-a-Lago.

On the other hand, Vice-President Mike Pence has said he will attend.

Some of his supporters say that they are planning to hold a virtual “second inauguration” for Mr. Trump on the same day and time that Biden takes the oath. More than 68,000 people have said on

Facebook they will attend the online event to support Trump.

Hillary Clinton attended the inauguration of Donald Trump with her husband Bill Clinton. According to the international news agency, only three presidents – John Adams, John Quincy Adams,

and Andrew Johnson – have actively chosen to sit out their successor’s inaugurations, and none in the last century.

President Donald Trump has made his farewell speech before leaving office.

A video was posted on YouTube. Trump said in the video, “We did what we came to do – and so much more.” He added that he took on “the tough battles, the hardest fights… because that’s what you elected me to do”.
