Haramain high-speed railway train will resume its operation between Makkah and Madinah from Wednesday.

According to the details, Saudi Arabia will resume its electric train operations linking the two Holy cities from tomorrow.

The train services were halted a year before due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across the country.

Back on March 21, 2020, the train operation was discontinued to combat the COVID-19 outbreak.

Moreover, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, advisor to King Salman and the governor of Makkah, will visit the railway station at King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah in connection with the launch of the first trip on Wednesday.

The Haramain train service links the two big cities of Saudi Arabia, Makkah and Madinah with extensions to Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City.

The Minister of Transport and chairman of the Saudi Railways Organization, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, said that the service will work at full extent, with 54 trips on daily basis.

The train will carry 417 passengers with a speed of up to 300km per hour and it will help transport 60 million passengers in a year on 35 trains.

Earlier, a fire broke out near the Haramain high-speed rail station in Jeddah.

The station had its renovation after it was damaged because of a massive fire on September 29, 2019. It had been out of operation after the fire.
