An earthquake with magnitude 2.7 shook the Oman coast on Saturday (today).

According to the international news agency, the earthquake happened at a depth of 10 kilometers.

National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology reported that minor tremors were also felt in the UAE.


NCM shared a statement that reads, “A 2.7 magnitude (Richter Scale) earthquake is recorded in Oman Sea at 12:55 am (UAE time).”

On the other hand, the National Seismic Network also reported that tremors with a low strength ranging from three to four on the Mercalli scale were felt in the UAE.

Earlier in March, a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.2 shook the coast of northeastern Japan at a depth of 60 km. The quake hit the coast at 6:09 pm (Japanese time).

As per the details, at least one person has been injured. According to Japan’s media, the earthquake measured up to a strong 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale to 7.

Tsunami waves up to 1 meter may have reached the Miyagi Prefecture coast shortly after 6:30 p.m. The authorities had lifted the warnings by 7:30 pm.
