US President Joe Biden has announced the end of the war in Iraq.

Biden met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi at the White House, who said relations with Iraq were entering a new phase.

He said security cooperation between the United States and Iraq would continue, and that the Iraqi army would continue to be trained and assisted in dealing with ISIS.

“Our role in Iraq will be … to be available, to continue to train, to assist, to help and to deal with ISIS as it arises, but we’re not going to be, by the end of the year, in a combat mission,” Biden said.

Biden also said he would not conduct any military operations in Iraq until the end of the year however, U.S. forces will still be deployed on Iraqi land.
