British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said that no country should recognize the Taliban as the Afghan government, while it is clear that a new administration will emerge in Afghanistan soon.

“We don’t want any country to recognize the Taliban as the Afghan government,” he said in an interview.

The British Prime Minister urged the Western countries that there is a need for any such step to be taken keeping in view the procedures of an organization like the United Nations or NATO.

“We want like-minded countries to take a united stand on this issue so that we can prevent Afghanistan from becoming a hotbed of bloodshed and terrorism,” he said.

Taliban fighters entered Kabul on Sunday, while President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.

The U.S. embassy said the country’s capital’s airport was under fire, where diplomats, government officials and Afghan citizens were present.

Johnson said the British ambassador was present at the airport, where he was diligently handling visa applications. The prime minister said most of the British embassy staff had already returned to the country.

Upon asking if he expected the Taliban to take over the capital this quickly, he replied : “I think it would be fair to say that after the hasty US decision to withdraw from the country. That fact must be taken into account. ”

Russia has said in a statement that it does not yet recognize the Taliban as Afghanistan’s legitimate authority. This was stated by the official ‘RIA’ news agency.

According to an Associated Press report, as British troops arrived in Kabul to help evacuate British nationals, British lawmakers were given summer vacations to address the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan.

A special session of parliament will be held on Wednesday to discuss the Afghan crisis, officials said in London. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson chaired an emergency cabinet meeting on Sunday.

During the cabinet meeting, Johnson said Britain’s top priority at the moment was to ensure the evacuation of its citizens, as well as to issue visas to Afghans who had been with our forces for two decades and this should be done as soon as possible in the next few days.
