A WOMAN was raped in a park by an unidentified male.

The victim, 63, was assaulted during the day in the bustling park, which is frequented by dog walkers, runners, and bikers.

On Monday, police were summoned to the Rising Sun Park in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne after receiving complaints of a frightened lady.

Her assailant is characterised as a Caucasian male in his late twenties or early thirties.

He had a North East accent, a medium physique, and stood between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 10ins tall.

He was also described as clean-shaven and wearing a black or grey hoody and bottoms.

Shelley Hudson, Detective Chief Inspector, stated: “I’d want to commend the victim’s fortitude through this tremendously difficult period.

“This happened during the day in a popular park frequented by dog walkers, bikers, joggers, and people taking in the surroundings.

“The victim has now bravely provided us with a description, and we are hopeful that this, together with local knowledge, will lead to the identification of the culprit responsible.

“Incidents of this sort are uncommon in our region, but when they do occur, we are determined to utilising every strategy available to bring criminals to justice.””

DCI Hudson asked anybody who visits the park on a regular basis or was present at the time to assist with the investigation.
