According to UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq, UN Secretary-General António Guterres met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Kyiv on Thursday.

Guterres will speak to press in Kyiv soon, according to Haq.

“They’ve met; I’m not sure if the meeting is over at this point,” Haq said at a news conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The secretary-general had visited Borodianka earlier on Thursday and “expressed his regret in viewing the devastated structures there,” according to the spokesperson.

“War is an absurdity in the twenty-first century,” he continued. The war is a terrible thing. And, of course, when we see these events, our hearts go out to the victims,” the spokeswoman said.
Guterres then paid a visit to Bucha’s St. Andrew’s Church. After visiting the killing site, Haq informed reporters that the secretary-general stressed the importance of a comprehensive inquiry and accountability.

“He voiced his support for the International Criminal Court’s activities and urged the Russian Federation to cooperate with the court,” according to Haq.

On Tuesday, Guterres met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. He urged that Russian President Vladimir Putin form a three-party humanitarian committee consisting of the UN, Russia, and Ukraine to collaborate on humanitarian corridors in Ukraine.
