LONDON: Britain claimed it had reduced duties on all Ukrainian goods while prohibiting specific technology shipments to Moscow in order to assist Kyiv in its battle against the Russian invasion.

Responding directly to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s request, the UK’s foreign trade department said Monday that it has dropped “all taxes on commodities imported from Ukraine,” including major exports such as barley, honey, and chicken.

In a statement, international trade secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan said in a statement that the UK will continue to do everything in its power to support Ukraine’s fight against Putin’s brutal and unprovoked invasion.

At the same time, Britain stated that “products and technology that Russia could use to repress the heroic people of Ukraine” would not be exported. This includes, presumably, surveillance and interception devices.

Britain stepped up its sanctions against Russia this week, targeting army officials and imposing import bans on silver, wood goods, and caviar.

The invasion has sparked an outpouring of solidarity from both sides of the Atlantic, with Western nations imposing a slew of financial sanctions and funnelling arms into Ukraine to assist Kyiv in repelling Russian forces.

The latest UK steps come as Russia warns that the crisis, which is now in its third month, is on the verge of exploding into World War III.
