Finland’s government claims that its websites were targeted in a cyberattack during Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s speech to parliament.

On Friday afternoon, the official pages of the Finnish foreign and defence ministries were also down for a short while.

The foreign ministry later admitted that it had been struck by a “denial of service attack” (DDOS) attack in a statement.

The website was first down about 12:00 p.m., but was quickly “returned to normal” within an hour, according to the ministry.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken measures to limit the attack in cooperation with service providers and the Cybersecurity Centre.”

Helsinki did not disclose who was behind the attack or provide any other information.

These are not ransomware cyberattacks, where hackers might ask for money to get back files they have stolen.

Following the commencement of the war, Finland, which shares a 1,300-kilometer border with Russia, is considering joining NATO.

Finland’s defence ministry also confirmed that a Russian government plane had briefly crossed across its airspace on Friday.
