US President Joe Biden’s younger dog, Major, created a lot of difficulty for Secret Service agents last year, and they were incensed by the White House’s attempts to conceal bite injuries.
According to a complaint filed by Judicial Watch under the Freedom of Information Act,
Major bit Secret Service agents several times last year, according to documents. The records show a chronology from February to August last year.
According to one of the emails obtained by Judicial Watch, “at the current rate, an agent or officer has been bitten every day this week, causing damage to attire or bruising/punctures to the skin.”
Judicial Watch said the records suggest agents were told to keep their “hands and fingers” “in their pockets.”
Major “was surprised by an unfamiliar person and reacted in a way that resulted in a minor injury to the individual,” according to White House spokesman Jen Psaki on March 9, 2021. That angered the injured agent, who penned a furious message to a coworker, now redacted.
The Secret Service reportedly tried to keep the specifics of the dog bite events hidden from the public.
But one of the Judicial Watch photographs reveals an agent’s torn wool overcoat. The agent reported two months later that “Major assaulted me unprovoked, shredding the wool overcoat I was wearing.”
It’s unclear if President Biden paid for the agent’s coat, which was worth over $500 according to one of the records.
“These documents show Major was a dangerous dog and the Biden White House lied about it, placing Secret Service and other White House personnel at needless risk,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton told the New York Post.
Major, a German Shepherd, was given to family friends last year, according to the White House, buts its present whereabouts are not known. After Major left, the Biden family’s elder German Shepherd, Champ, died and they adopted a new puppy of the same breed, named Commander.
