A Missouri man was sentenced to 10 years behind bars after he admitted to trying to hire a hitman to kill a boy he is accused of sexually assaulting.

Jon Mark Wilson, 58, of Sedalia, paid an undercover agent $2,000 to murder his alleged victim, the Department of Justice said in a press release on Tuesday.

Wilson had already been charged with two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy in Pettis County when he attempted to solicit a hitman in 2019, according to federal prosecutors.

After authorities were tipped off by the person Wilson initially tried to hire, investigators had an undercover agent meet with the accused in Kansas. Wilson also told the agent that he wanted the victim’s mother, Wilson’s ex-wife, killed — but he didn’t have enough money to pay for both murders.

Instead, he hoped she would be so distraught over her son’s death that she would kill herself, prosecutors said. “It’s the only choice I got,” he told the agent, according to court documents.

Wilson paid the agent $2,000 in cash, arranged to pay an additional $5,000 after the boy was killed in two separate installments, and provided the would-be assassin with a photo of the boy he allegedly molested. He also gave him 12 shotgun shells to use in the killing

He was arrested by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper after he drove back over state lines. He pleaded guilty in September 2021 to one count of the use of interstate facilities in the commission of murder for hire.

The two sodomy counts against Wilson are still pending.
