In Keady, County Armagh, a father admitted murdering his then-11-month-old girlfriend’s kid.

Sharyar Ali, 34, of Monaghan’s Westenra Terrace, was scheduled to stand trial on Wednesday for the 2019 murder of Hunter Patrick McGleenon in Keady.

Ali’s lawyer requested that the murder accusation be re-filed against the Pakistani national, to which he replied “guilty.”

He initially claimed Hunter had suffered head injuries after falling off a sofa.

Ali will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

On Wednesday, none of the details were presented in open court, although a prior court heard that Ali had been in a relationship with the baby’s mother Nicole for a year.

He took care of the infant while she went to see her terminally ill grandma.

When he returned the youngster the next day, he said the infant couldn’t breathe, and when the family raced to the car to check, the baby was cold to the touch, according to the court.

A court had earlier been told that he “at no time” sought medical attention.

Ali acknowledged killing Hunter on November 26, 2019, and the prosecutor requested that a second charge of causing actual bodily injury on an unknown date between November 24 and November 27 be left on the books.

Mr. Justice McFarland rescheduled the case till June 15 to allow Hunter’s family to deliver victim impact statements.
