Five people have provided the information in the quest for the accused New York City subway shooter.
Frank James, a 62-year-old, set a smoke device, and opened fire on an N train.
He wounded 10 people in the massive shooting on the city’s railway system.
After a 29-hour manhunt, James called Crime Stoppers himself, before he was arrested, according to police and James’ lawyer.
The NYPD said that five people gave direct information that contributed to his arrest.
Mayor Eric Adams stated, “Thanks to the help of these five good Samaritans, the NYPD was able to do its job and get a dangerous suspect off the streets just hours after his picture was released.”
These people were not identified. The city said that the reward will be distributed evenly.
The prize is gathered by contributions from the New York City Police Foundation, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Transport Workers Union Local 100.
Around 20 people have been injured from either smoke inhalation, or shootings.
Ten people have been shot.
The convict has been charged with committing a terrorist attack, and other violence against mass transportation system.
He is sentenced to life imprisonment.
The motive has not been revealed.
Police Commissioner, Keechant L. Sewell said, “We were able to shrink his world, quickly.”
According to sources, even if James had not surrendered Crime Stoppers, officers were certain that he would have been captured soon because they had already inundated the surrounding Lower East Side neighborhood.
A similar incident took place in the year 1993, when the shooter opened fire with a hand gun on a road train.
At that time, six people were killed, and 19 were wounded. He was sentenced to 315 years of imprisonment.
