A puppy was rescued from the ruins of a shelled Ukrainian town and returned to its elderly owner.

The amazing rescue occurred in the village of Mykhailivka in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk province.

The area has been brutally pounded in recent days by Vladimir Putin’s forces, who have focussed their efforts on the country’s east.

The rescue clip shows emergency service personnel scrambling desperately through the rubble when they suddenly locate the pup.

The rescuers extracted the dog from the debris before reviving it and handed it over to the canine’s concerned 77-year-old owner.

According to reports, the man barely survived the bombardment and then notified emergency personnel to his puppy’s misery.

In a statement, Donetsk Regional Police said: ‘Every life is important – this is the slogan of the police and rescuers of Donetsk Oblast.

‘Recent shelling in Mykhailivka Village came dangerously close to killing a 77-year-old man.

‘By some miracle, he lived, and his dog was buried beneath debris and earth.

‘The elderly gentleman yearned to see his four-legged companion.
