A large fuel depot in a Russian town near the Ukrainian border caught fire Monday, according to Russian news agencies.

“A fire has been reported at the Transneft Bryansk-Druzhba fuel depot in Bryansk,” the ministry said, citing media reports.

“According to preliminary information, there are no injuries,” the ministry added.

The fire’s origin is unknown. But it started at 2:00 a.m. (2300 GMT) in Bryansk’s Fokinsky district.

Emergency and fire services arrived quickly. Flames and smoke were seen in the night sky over Bryansk.

Interfax reported it was the second recent fire at a fuel depot in the region, but the report could not be independently verified.

Russia has repeatedly accused Ukrainian forces of attacking its soil, most recently in mid-April in the Bryansk region.

In early April, the governor of Belgorod, which borders Ukraine, said Kyiv helicopters had fired on a fuel depot there.
