Shanghai reports more symptomatic COVID-19 cases

Shanghai reported a new record number of symptomatic COVID-19 cases on Saturday, underscoring the country’s “dynamic clearance” strategy for COVID control.

The Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone, in Henan’s central province, imposed a 14-day shutdown on Friday “to respond to the pandemic situation.”

Only personnel with proper passes, health codes, and proof of negative COVID tests will be allowed to exit the zone at this time, though “special vehicles” will be allowed to travel normally for work purposes.

Requests for comment from Foxconn went unanswered.

Following scores of COVID-19 illnesses last month, the city of Xian announced a temporary partial lockdown for its 13 million citizens.

The new limits indicate widespread supply chain problems that might cause delays for companies like Apple. A slowdown in economic growth is expected this year, according to economists.
