In graffiti-obsessed Paris, the slogan “Neither Le Pen nor Macron” has evolved as a symbol of political disaffection among students, many of whom voted for left-wing candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the first round of France’s presidential election. However, this weekend’s run-off is a rematch of the 2017 Elysée campaign, with a choice between incumbent Emmanuel Macron of the right and Marine Le Pen of the far-right.

Macron’s record on climate change and housing hasn’t won over young people, with some claiming that “they are both as horrible as each other” and vowing to abstain in the second round rather than vote for Macron to keep out a dangerous extreme.
