Thousands flock to Gold Coast for Easter long weekend
The Gold Coast is witnessing its most significant increase in tourism in two years, as Easter tourists flock to one of the Sunshine State’s most popular tourist spots.
This holiday weekend, the coastal city received a boost comparable to pre-pandemic levels, with resorts and hotels nearing capacity.
The city’s hotels are currently at or near capacity, while the Gold Coast airport experiences its busiest day in two years.
International and domestic travelers have arrived in the area for the weekend, making it one of the busiest holiday destinations in the country.
“All the resorts are full, 100 percent occupancy here at the moment,” Sue Fairweather from ULTIQA Hotels and Resorts said.
Thousands went to the Gold Coast’s entertainment parks, with car parks reaching capacity and families and visitors encountering lengthy waits.
“It’s bigger than I thought it would be,” one woman said.
Others come early in order to avoid the lineups.
According to Destination Gold Coast, the Easter school holiday period is expected to increase the local economy by $173 million.
Beaches have also been crowned as holidaymakers from New South Wales seek to escape the state’s recent inclement weather.
“We came to the Gold Coast to get out of the weather of Sydney and get some sunshine and the beach, take the kids out for a little while,” one woman said.
Additionally, locals positioned deck chairs on the beach to soak up the sun.
