Major General Vladimir Frolov, deputy commander of Russia’s 8th Army, was buried Saturday after being killed in action in Ukraine, Russian state media said, making him the eighth Russian general killed in Moscow’s invasion, assuming Ukrainian reports are genuine.

As of the end of March, around 14 Russian generals and senior colonels had been reported killed–a significant death toll that is likely to have harmed Russia’s front-line operations. According to an unidentified Pentagon source, it’s “unsurprising” to see “[Russian] generals on the battlefield” and susceptible to Ukrainian fire on March 25. According to the source, Russians “do not delegate well,” “do not invest much responsibility” in younger officers, and “do not have a non-commissioned officer corps.”
