President Joe Biden was expected to announce new gun control measures on Monday, amid rising concerns about gun violence and untraceable “ghost guns” that can be 3D printed at home.

Biden’s statement would likely include executive orders on gun control, ghost guns, and other aspects of weapons regulation, two sources familiar with his speech told NBC News.

Biden was anticipated to unveil a new candidate to run the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on Monday.

The White House withdrew its last nomination, 25-year ATF veteran David Chipman, in September when Republican opponents united to safeguard the freedom to bear weapons.

Chipman works for Giffords, a group founded by former Arizona U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was assassinated in 2011. The group wants to stop gun violence and save lives. Senator Mitch McConnell called Chipman a Second Amendment opponent.

Gun control supporters slammed the Biden administration for failing to press hard enough for Chipman and for taking so long to replace him.

The political bickering comes amid a rise in gun violence in several major cities.

A new round of anti-ghost gun legislation was also expected from Biden.

Many major cities have experienced increased recoveries. They lack serial numbers, allowing authorities to monitor them and do background checks. And they come in plastic, so they can avoid metal detectors.
