Wimbledon bans Russian Tennis players from competing this year

Reports arose before that Russian tennis players wouldn’t be allowed to contend at the current year’s Wimbledon.

This has now been affirmed by the Grand Slam’s coordinators All England Lawn Tennis Club, adding that Belarusian players will likewise be banned.

Ian Hewitt, administrator of the All England Club, said: “We perceive that this is difficult for the people impacted, and it is with trouble that they will languish over the activities of the heads of the Russian system.”

“We have painstakingly viewed as the elective estimates that may be taken inside the UK Government direction however, given the high profile climate of The Championships, the significance of not permitting game to be utilized to advance the Russian system and our more extensive worries for public and player (counting family) security, we don’t really accept that it is feasible to continue on some other premise at The Championships.”

This year, Wimbledon happens from 27 June to 10 July.
