Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, has suggested that an oil embargo might be included in the EU’s sixth package of penalties against Russia.

According to Ukrinform, he wrote this on Telegram, referring to the German publication Zeit.

“Insider knowledge about European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen from Germany’s Zeit. The EU is studying measures to include oil in the next round of sanctions, as well as restrictions on Russia’s financial sector, particularly Sberbank, and its energy industry “Yermak explained.

At the same time, he stated that “sanctions against Gazprombank, through which payments for Russian gas are made, will also be effective” in the financial sector.

The European Union’s leadership is considering imposing an embargo on Russian oil products, which would be one of the most severe blows to the Russian economy, which has already been hit hard by sanctions as a result of the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine.
