According to reports on Wednesday, Saudi authorities detained more than 60 people for trying to smuggle drugs into the Kingdom.

In the districts of Jazan, Najran, and Asir, the 61 suspects attempted to smuggle 760 kg of hashish and 45.6 tonnes of the narcotic plant khat.

According to sources, 41 of the 61 suspects were Saudi citizens, 11 were Ethiopian, seven were Yemenis, and two were Pakistanis.

The authorities in the Kingdom continue to crack down on drugs and smuggling activities.

This includes a high-profile restriction on the import of fruit and vegetables from Lebanon in 2021, when Saudi Arabia’s Customs foiled an effort to transport over five million Captagon tablets out of the country disguised as fruit.
