China launched a drone carrier on Wednesday with a one-of-a-kind artificial intelligence system that incorporates dozens of autonomous drones, ships, and submersibles for maritime research and observation, according to The South China Morning Post.

The 88-meter-long, 14-meter-wide, and 6-meter-deep drone carrier, which can operate independently, may be controlled remotely or move autonomously in open water, as well as construct a network to detect targets and contribute to maritime security, according to the SCMP.

According to the state-run Science and Technology Daily, the automated ship will be a strong instrument for the nation to perform marine scientific studies and observations since it can be commanded remotely and sail autonomously in open water.

“Zhu Hai Yun” is the name given to this vessel. It can transport dozens of drone aircraft and unmanned watercraft at a speed of 18 knots.

Sun Yat-sen University’s Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai), popularly known as the “Southern Ocean Laboratory,” developed the Intelligent Mobile Ocean Stereo Observing System (IMOSOS).

The carrier’s swarm of autonomous drones, ships, and submersibles may be deployed in a predetermined maritime region and undertake “three-dimensional dynamic observations,” according to CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipping Co., which developed the vessel.
