For the first time, the Duke of Cambridge attended the State Opening and sat next to his father, Prince Charles, who made the address in the Queen’s absence. As he arrived and greeted dignitaries, the second in line to the throne smiled before biting his lip and moving around the chamber with his hands clasped in front of him.

According to a body language specialist, William’s uneasiness was due to the “weight of  responsibility” on his shoulders.

According to Adrianne Carter of the Daily Star, the 39-year-old appeared to be lacking in confidence when compared to past public appearances.

She said of Prince William: “He is not always as confident at ‘officialdom’ as he is when interacting with real people.”

As concerns about the Queen’s health grow, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that the 96-year-old queen will deliver the Queen’s address again.

And she concluded that Prince William was feeling “the weight of the occasion” as he and his father opened Parliament on the Queen’s behalf.

In a very important event, Prince Charles read the Queen’s Speech, offering a peek of his future position as head of state.

The occasion was regarded as a “big moment in royal history” by Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine.

Mr Little said of Charles,  “It must have been a hugely significant moment for him.”

“It was rather telling the way that as the Imperial State Crown was placed on the table at the side of him, he looked at it for several seconds,” added, “You kind of wondered at the time what was going through his mind.”
