COLOMBO: Eight more cabinet members were sworn in before Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Monday as a new administration being created in the wake of weeks of political unrest and economic catastrophe.

The eight ministers took their oaths at the President’s House in Colombo, according to the President’s Media Division, and then went on to their various ministries.

Douglas Devananda was sworn in as fisheries minister, Keheliya Rambukwella as water minister, Mahinda Amaraweera as agriculture, wildlife and forest conservation minister, and Ramesh Pathirana as industries minister.

Following Ranil Wickremesinghe’s inauguration as Prime Minister on May 12, thirteen cabinet ministers were selected on two earlier occasions.

Due to a shortage of vital supplies such as food and medications, Sri Lanka has experienced weeks of public protests.
