BAMAKO: The Malian army said Wednesday that four Malian troops were killed when an improvised device exploded.

The tragedy occurred Wednesday morning, according to a statement on the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) official website, when a security patrol of the FAMa leapt on a homemade device in Djenne, killing four people and injuring one.

Shellfire from the Armed Terrorist Groups (GAT) killed two children and injured four others in Diondiori, also in central Mali, on Monday.

Since 2012, Mali has been beset by security, political, and economic challenges, with insurgencies, jihadist invasions, and intercommunal violence killing thousands and displacing hundreds of thousands.
