According to an Elysée Palace statement, French President Emmanuel Macron offered Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky additional weapons in the next days during a phone chat between the two leaders.

Macron confirmed that France’s arms supply will “continue and intensify in the days and weeks ahead, as will the delivery of humanitarian goods.”

During a European Council session in June, Macron also stated that Ukraine’s candidacy for EU membership will be “considered.”

The EU’s decision will be based on the “opinion that the European Commission would have delivered, and in the spirit expressed at the Versailles summit by all the member states who affirmed that Ukraine was part of the European family,” according to the bloc.

The leaders also discussed the Azovstal plant evacuations, as well as “the difficulty of food security and various measures to allow exports of Ukrainian grains, which feed a big part of the world.”
