DAKAR: Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor, visited Dakar, Senegal’s capital, on Sunday, as part of an Africa tour that will also take him to Niger and South Africa.

After a joint news conference with Senegalese President Macky Sall at the Palace of the Republic of Senegal, Scholz travelled to Diass (southeast) for the commissioning of a solar power plant.

At the joint news conference, Sall emphasised his happiness with “the quality of bilateral cooperation” stating the visit “reflects the excellent quality of Senegalese-German relations.”

According to Scholz, Senegal and Germany are “two friendly countries” that can “count on mutual support.”

“The partnership that binds our two countries is very close and will become more important,” he said. “We appreciate Senegal’s commitment to peace in the sub-region.”
