Germany is ready to introduce gas and energy projects with Senegal

Germany is seriously seeking after gas and sustainable power projects with Senegal, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Sunday during his most memorable excursion to Africa, against the background of the conflict in Ukraine and its effect on energy and food costs.

Scholz started off the three-day visit in Senegal, which has billions of cubic meters of gas reserves and is supposed to turn into a significant gas maker in the district.

Germany is trying to lessen its weighty dependence on Russia for gas following the Kremlin’s intrusion of Ukraine. It has started talks with the Senegalese specialists about gas extraction and liquified petroleum gas, Scholz said.

“It is a matter worth seeking after seriously,” he said at a news meeting with Senegalese President Macky Sall, adding that advancement in the discussions was in the two nations’ normal interest.

Scholz said Germany was additionally intrigued by Senegalese sustainable power projects. He didn’t give further subtleties.

On Friday, a German government official said Germany could assist with investigating a gas field in Senegal.

Sall said Senegal was prepared to make progress toward providing the European market with LNG. He figures Senegal’s LNG yield will reach 2.5 million tons one year from now and 10 million tons by 2030.

As far as the gas investigation, a project supporting different inquiries, “all that is open, and we are quick to work with Germany in this unique situation,” Sall said.
