According to the Times of London, a Ukrainian fighter pilot known as the “Ghost of Kyiv” was killed in a battle last month after shooting down up to 40 Russian planes. Major Stepan Tarabalka, a 29-year-old father of one, was also named as the war hero by the journal.

According to the UK tabloid, the Tarabalka, which was flying a MiG-29, was shot down on March 13 while facing an “overwhelming” amount of enemy forces.

According to his family, the fighter pilot was posthumously awarded Ukraine’s highest decoration for combat bravery, the Order of the Golden Star. He was also designated as a Ukrainian Hero.

According to the Times, his helmet and goggles will be auctioned off in London.

Tarabalka rose to international prominence after downing ten Russian planes on the first day of the invasion. “He’s known as the Ghost of Kyiv.” And rightly so,” the Ukrainian administration said last month in a tweet.
