The spouse of a Texas teacher who was killed in a school shooting died two days after she died.

Joe Garcia’s wife, Irma Garcia, was slain while defending a fourth-grade class at an elementary school in Uvalde, according to FOX26 journalist Matthew Seedorff.
Joe died of a heart attack, according to the deceased’s family, he tweeted. The couple had been married for 24 years and had four children together.

After rushing into the elementary school on Tuesday, a young gunman slaughtered at least 19 children and two teachers, the latest act of gun-fueled mass murder in the United States and the country’s bloodiest school shooting in nearly a decade.

The school’s 19 students and two teachers were slaughtered in a single classroom where the attacker locked himself.

Authorities say the mayhem began when the 18-year-old suspect, Salvador Ramos, shot his own grandmother, who survived.

He drove away from the scene and crashed near the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, about 80 miles (130 kilometres) west of San Antonio. There, he went on a deadly rampage that ended when he was shot and killed by police.
