According to the Times of India, an 18-year-old girl threatened her parents by attempting to kill herself by putting her hands in the middle of ceiling fan blades.

The girl had requested that her parents purchase her the most recent model of an expensive smartphone, but they had refused. As a result, she vowed to hurt herself and her parents.

Infuriated and distressed, the father dialed Abhayam 181, a helpline that provides counselling, guidance, and rescue in a variety of life-threatening situations.

The girl is a first-year medical student, according to a counsellor, and her parents are lawyers.

According to reports, the family is well-off and has always given their daughter the finest.

The parents claimed that because the girl already had a working phone, they refused to purchase a new one for her. As a result, she began destroying things and shouting. She then threatened to cut herself by putting her fingers in the whir of the fan.

A officer and a counsellor arrived at the apartment after phoning the helpline. She was quiet when she eventually came down after 30 minutes.

“The parents said she was on medication but it did not help much. We counselled the girl and told the parents that she may need psychological intervention,” the counsellor said.
