On Wednesday, Selena Gomez spoke at the White House with first lady Jill Biden and US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy about juvenile mental health.
The singer/actor has been open about her problems, revealing in 2020 that she was diagnosed with bipolar illness.

In the East Room, Biden, Murthy, and Gomez spoke with a group of young individuals, including a mother and a recent Rutgers college graduate, on how they had changed their mental attitudes.

They offered a variety of ideas, like going to numerous therapists to find one who is perfect for you and using baking to stimulate communication with those suffering similar issues.

“Mental health is very personal for me and I hope that by using my platform to share my own story … I can help others feel less alone,” Gomez added.

Jill Biden said, “It takes courage to, you know, be honest about the struggles that you faced and to tell your stories.,” the first lady said. “And it takes courage to understand that your voice can make a difference and to show your creativity and talents, you know, to all of the worlds.”

Murthy believes that having an open dialogue can assist to alter “hearts and minds” and erase the stigma connected with mental illness. MTV Entertainment sponsored the discussion, which took place on Thursday to coincide with the inaugural Mental Health Action Day.
