Three members of New Zealand’s visiting party have tested positive for coronavirus, but their four-day warm-up match against Sussex in England will go ahead, cricket officials confirmed on Friday.
After a battery of tests on the first morning in Hove, batsman Henry Nicholls, seamer Blair Tickner, and bowling coach Shane Jurgensen were all flagged and will be isolated for five days.
Nicholls had suffered a calf injury recently and was not anticipated to play in the encounter.
The rest of the team tested negative, and New Zealand Cricket said the matter would be monitored.
However, due to persistent morning rain and muddy ground conditions, no play was possible at Sussex’s Hove headquarters on Friday.
New Zealand is also without captain Kane Williamson, who is at home expecting the birth of his second child, as well as Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and Daryl Mitchell, who are all playing in the Indian Premier League.
The World Test champions are gearing up for a three-match series against England, which begins on June 2 at Lord’s.
