North Korea is now a nuclear weapons state
North Korea : According to the Korean Central News Agency, tests on an undefined number of persons in Pyongyang’s capital proved they were infected with the omicron variant. North Korea previously claimed to have a spotless record in keeping COVID-19 at bay, a claim widely disputed by foreign experts.
According to the news agency, Kim called a Politburo meeting of the ruling Korean Workers’ Party, at which members agreed to strengthen anti-virus efforts.
Kim encouraged officials during the discussion to quickly stabilize transmissions and eliminate the illness source.
“There has been the country’s largest emergency incident, with a hole in our emergency quarantine front that has been kept safe for the past two years and three months since February 2020,” according to state media.
The article said that persons in Pyongyang had contracted the Omicron variety, but no case numbers or suspected infection sources were provided.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un presided over a Workers’ Party meeting to discuss the first coronavirus epidemic when the report was issued.
During the discussion, Kim reportedly requested that officials stabilize transmissions and eliminate the illness source as soon as feasible.
North Koreа has blocked its border to neаrly all trаde аnd visitors for the pаst two yeаrs, aggravating the economic dаmаge caused by decаdes of mismаnаgement аnd crushing US-led sanctions over its nucleаr аnd missile progrаms.
Astringent Covid policy was imposed from the start of the epidemic to prevent the virus from spreading across the country.
