In Northern Ireland’s legislative assembly, a pro-Irish reunification party is on track to become the largest.

Belfast, Northern Ireland – Northern Ireland appears to be on the verge of a “seismic” election result following Thursday’s parliamentary vote; with seats remaining to be filled.

Sinn Féin, a pro-reunification party that was previously the political wing of the IRA, is on track to become the parliamentary assembly’s most powerful party.
If Sinn Féin wins the most seats; it will be the first time in Northern Ireland’s 101-year existence that the role of First Minister is not held by a unionist who supports Northern Ireland being part of the United Kingdom.

The party was able to not only maintain but also greatly increase its vote share; with 250,388 first preferences compared to 184,002 for the nearest competitors, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).
