Israeli aggressiveness and apartheid policies particularly act at Al-Aqsa Mosque, have been blamed by Palestinians for Thursday night’s attack in Elad, which killed three Israelis.

According to witnesses, two perpetrators left their automobile and hit passers-by with axes, killing three and injuring four before escaping in the same vehicle.

On Friday, Israeli officials started a massive manhunt for the two Palestinians accused of carrying out the murders, which occurred after violent skirmishes between Israelis and Palestinians inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Assad Yussef Al-Rifai, 19, and Subhi Imad Abu Shukair, 20, have been identified as suspects.

Palestinians have been outraged by a surge in Jewish worshippers at Al-Aqsa, which violates a long-standing agreement that Jews can visit but not pray in the compound.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced the incident in Elad, warning that it might spark fresh bloodshed.

However, Hamas and another Palestinian armed organization, Islamic Jihad, claimed that the attack was an unavoidable result of the turmoil at Al-Aqsa.

“This operation demonstrates our people’s anger at the occupation’s attacks on holy sites,” Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said. “The storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque cannot go unpunished.”

Jenin Governor Maj. Gen. Akram Rajoub criticized Israeli policy for the deaths as well. He told Arab News that Israel has a “system of apartheid in which everything is theirs and they do not provide anything to the Palestinians.” That is why the Palestinians are enraged, and they pay the price with their blood. Palestinians are suffering as a result of a political crisis caused by the dishonest Israeli government led by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett.

“All the attacks that happen against the Israelis are because of a lack of a political horizon and the occupation’s suppression of the Palestinians and the green light given to the settlers to attack the Palestinians under the protection of the Israeli army,” he continued.

The Israelis, he added, have tried to find a solution by tightening security, taking economic measures against the Palestinians, and stopping essential services to punish them, but nothing has succeeded.

“Therefore, what remains for them to try is a political solution that gives the Palestinians hope for a free future, and I am sure that it would succeed,” he said. “The problem is that the Israelis adopt every option that angers the Palestinian people and increases their suffering. The Israelis flee from every option that leads to creating security and stability for the Palestinian and Israeli sides.”

Subhi Sbeihat, Abu Shukair’s grandpa, who lives in Rummana, a hamlet near Jenin, claimed his grandson, an electrical contractor, is “religiously dedicated to good morals” and well-liked in the area.

However, he went on to say that his grandson, “like any Palestinian under occupation,” “could not withstand the pressures and ongoing attacks against Al-Aqsa and fellow Palestinians.”

He started his last touch with his grandson on Thursday afternoon, and that he had gone to Ramallah for Eid.

He stated that around 4 a.m. on Friday, Israeli police detained Abu Shukair’s father at his employment in Jdeidet Al-Makr, Galilee.

Sbeihat also blamed Israel for the Elad attack and for other “operations” conducted by Palestinian youths, saying they were caused by “the crimes the state of Israel commits daily against the Palestinian people, and its incursions and violations in Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
